computer rookie. do i need anything elso right now?
I have the new spyware doctor,5.5 with antivirus!!! i paid 40 bucks before i found out all the free ones offerfree anti virus
Keep what you have. I also previously believed (as the above answerer) that the free Spyware Doctor Starter Edition was as good as the paid version (minus the real time protection)... until I found out it lacks about 400,000 malware definitions from the paid one! (See source at bottom.) I had also been advising people to use it, but no more. It's really about worthless, and I'm sorry for all the people I told to use it.
Now to the rest of your question, assuming that you have a real-time antivirus (my suggestion: Avast) and a bi-directional firewall (my suggestion: Comodo Firewall Pro), you're pretty well covered with the real-time protection given by Spyware Doctor paid version. I would however suggest adding a couple of on-demand spyware scanners, and my top two are Superantispyware and A-Squared Free.

try spybot a free program that actually works well
Not sure, but you can try returning the software if it's allowed.
Visit pack.google.com (the Google Pack) to find a free version of Spyware Doctor; it's nearly the same as the one you can buy, but with limited OnGuard.
Also, Wikipedia has a handy list of AntiVirus software; it can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ant...
